Christmas Song

As some of you may know, we’ve been tossing around the idea of doing a Christmas song.  The idea has some merit, because Christmas is a sweet holiday where you get tons of stuff for free and you’re allowed to greedily stash it away and horde it till it rots.

Wait, you didn’t do that as a kid?  Oh, uh, neither did I.

Anywho, it looks like we’re gonna move forward with this thing and it’s got a good chance of happening.  We may or may not have decided which song it’ll be and we may or may not feature screaming and other metal elements.  It all kinda depends on how the song seems like it should go as we work on it.

So what do you think?  Terrible idea?  Brilliant genius from (yet again) the brilliant mind of Seth?  Biggest mistake of our lives?  Meh, who cares?  I’m trying to run the gamut here.  Any possible responses I missed?

And which song are you longing to hear?  I’m secretly hoping to convince the guys to do “Jingle Bells, Batman smells…” but it’s a long shot…

I love the idea. And I think a cover of Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is in order. :D

  • Seba

I’d would like to hear a BTA’s version of Oh Holy Night or Joy To The World ;)

    • martin k

I’d love to hear what you would do with o holy night as well. Its a beautiful tune and could be interesting.

      • Dan S

I definitely agree with ‘O Holy Night’!! It seems to be one of those Christmas songs that gets overlooked a bit, but it’s one of my absolute favorites!

      • http://www.yahoo.com/ Wilma

A pleasingly raotnail answer. Good to hear from you.

    • Joel

Actually, ‘O Holy Night’ has been done to death. Multiple bands have covered it, and it’s on every Christmas album ever released.

      • martin k

its never been done bta style!

      • Seba

Remember How Great Thou Art… BTA style is unique!

      • Joel

I’d never even heard of ‘How Great Thou Art’ until I heard it on Dichotomy. And I still haven’t seen another metal band cover it.

  • althrioan

I have no idea about which Christmas you guys should cover but whatever you do, I trust you fully that it’ll be awesome. Even if you wouldn’t add screaming and metal… but then the cover in a BTA way would be senseless I think. “Make it sound nasty” is a good way to begin – to quote the also genius Jason Wisdom ;)
Anyway, I trust the awesome mind of you, Count Seth, and I’ll give this song definitely a spin (or more^^) on the holy evening when my family has gathered! YAY for BTA tunes and the almighty Seth :D

Another response could be “BUT WITH NO BREAKDOWNS YOU BR00TAL ASS GUYS!!!”

  • Dan S

I’m sure you guys have heard of August Burns Red.. right? You guys are probably all best buds and all…
Anyways, you could do a kind of a metal vs metal Christmas song: they did ‘Carol of the Bells’, so you do it awesome BTA style; they did ‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’, you do it… AWESOME BTA STYLE!!; etc. etc.

    I don’t….. just an idea.
OR you guys can do whatever Christmas song you’d like… I’m fully convinced that WHATEVER you guys play becomes ‘golden metal’ AWESOMENESS!!

  • skully

i think you guys shoud do “O Come O Come Emmanuel” i don’t know why but i think it’s trully an epic song imho.
@ Dan: that’s a really awesome idea eventhough i don’t care much for August Burns Red

  • Abe

I cringed when I first saw this post, but then I got to thinking about how sweet the ABR version of Carol of the Bells was, and I think you guys can pull this off for sure.

How about a brutal version of “Do You Hear What I Hear”? It either needs to be an epic instrumental or with growls and at least one breakdown.

    • althrioan

yeah for growls and bta breakdowns :D

      • Abe

I almost forgot…the song would also need an amazing guitar solo…maybe, dare I say, a bass solo!

      • skully

i second the bass solo idea :D

    • althrioan

I would go for a vocal solo after that… drums :D

  • http://latenightcravings.com Erich Rivers

Well, if you can’t decide on just one, how about short EP for the Christmas season?!

    • althrioan

Would be nice but I think that they have enough to do with the Celestial Completion Industrial EP … :D

  • althrioan

I can’t wait to listen to that song on the holy evening (in Germany we celebrate on the evening of the 24th december) with all the family around . haha.
Would be uberawesome if you could fund a Vinyl release .. maybe Broken Circles can handle a 7″ christmas single … don’t know because the TD Vinyl isn’t sold completely yet as it seems.

I can picture Jason screaming “What child is this, who laid to rest, on Mary’s lap is sleeping?” Then the whole band kicks in.

    • althrioan

if there will be a Jason :D ya, I know that I don’t know anything but there are rumors ^^at least in my head :D

      • martin k

i saw them in winnipeg and no jason there were fill ins on bass and vocals.

      • althrioan

I know that for the last tour in the USA there was a fill in but it would be interesting if Jason is just on hiatus (or something similiar) or completely out off the band …

  • ERROR:5021

Any Christmas song you guys do would not fail to be awesome. All ABR’s have turned out excellent even though they’re only instrumentals, but if you did anything with some sort of scream I’d buy it so fast. I’d buy it for my friends, and then I’d buy it and give it to random people on the street.

  • theron

How about a take on Handel’s Messiah? That could be a lot of fun.

  • http://www.zmandesigns.com The Z Man

Carol of the Bells … I’d like to see you guys outdo Metallica / Trans Siberian Orchestra :)

  • Christian B.

I would like to hear a band play there heart out to little drummer boy. After all it is about a boy who played his best for the new born king. I believe it should not be as simple as pa rum pum pum pum. I believe he would not have just played more than just a drum role.

  • Christian B.

sorry. I meant he would have played more than just a drum role. Just in case it sounded weard. And yes I know there is more to the song than that.

  • Seba

    Any new about it?

    • Seba

What child is this, angels we have heard on high, or god rest ye marry gentlemen would be really cool! I think wether or not you have Jason in the future you should have him only do vox and hire a permanent bassist cause live shows are much more fun that way… I was a little skeptical going to the concert cause I saw videos and all you guys were just planted there… but when I saw you live my mind was blown completely.. Keep rocking BTA God Bless.

  • aninnocentbystander

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91ivUgQVmYw I the Breather’s cover of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen turned out really awesome, you could try that one. Just do the entire song, their’s is too short lol
Or doing Handel’s Messiah could be pretty cool

Dude. I just saw the cover art for your Christmas song. It looks like a Winter/unblack cover. Which is to say… it looks freakin awesome. Cant wait for the release.
